Moravske Toplice: 1960-1980

The former farming settlement becomes a tourist resort with the rapid all-round development of a health resort.

1960

During a search for oil (1,175–1,467 m) thermal water is found: thermal mineral water with a temperature of 72˚C flows up from a depth of 1,417 m.

1962

Despite the closure of the well and a ban on the use of and access to the well, the locals open the well, build a shaft, and use the hot water for bathing. News of the ‘healing effects’ of the hot, petroleum-scented water reaches far and wide and attracts crowds of bathers and spectators. Initially, bathing takes place in a small shaft, which the locals voluntarily arrange and enlarge, taking care of the surroundings too.

1962

28 June 1962 – The first official opening of the bathhouse still takes place under the name The Martjanci Local Community Bathhouse, and is supported by the Moravci Tourist Society and the GP Zvezda group, which took care of catering in the wooden pre-fabricated pavilion.

7 September 1962 –
An analysis of the Moravci water is carried out by a Swedish institute (this day is also the official holiday of the Municipality of Moravske Toplice).

1963
18 August 1963 – Second official opening. An additional 10 holiday homes, a summer restaurant with terrace, 12 bathing cabins, sanitary facilities, rest areas and a pavilion for medical needs are built. Later, a 15 x 8 m swimming pool is also built. Accommodation with private providers in Moravci is arranged for the first time. This date is considered the official start of bathing and spa tourism in Moravci.

1964
Crowds of visitors come to Moravci, especially on weekends; the bathing season is long, and guests also come from abroad, especially from nearby Austria.

15 September 1964 – The National Health Secretariat in Ljubljana declares that thermal and mineral water is a natural healing agent. The municipality is made responsible for ensuring that the hygienic requirements for the well and its surroundings are met, and to provide communal infrastructure.

1966

The Moravci Thermal Bathhouse is granted permission to use the thermal water for the treatment of the musculoskeletal system, especially rheumatic diseases, and for the experimental treatment of primary and secondary amenorrhoea after previously ruling out the tuberculosis process.

1960–1980

In this period, the construction of accommodation facilities gets underway.
