PIŠKOTKI & ZASEBNOST
Visit the border area of Međimurje County. You can start at the northernmost tourist point in Croatia, the town of Sveti Martin na Muri, where you can find a mill on the Mura River and a museum known as the Miller's House. An educational path called the Miller’s Learning Path runs through the unspoilt nature of the area.
In the village of Mursko Središče, you can visit a mining museum and learn all about the once bustling mining tradition of Međimurje. The area also boasts the first Croatian museum of vintage vehicles, with a collection of old cars, tractors and motorcycles. Legend has it that the ancient Romans planted the first vineyards right here on the gentle hills of Međimurje.
Not too long ago, Međimurje was declared the best tourist destination in continental Croatia, which also has a very well-developed cycling network. The area is a vibrant wine route, has mills on the Mura River, gastronomy, more than 800 kilometres of cycle routes and a spa in SV. MARTIN, which is known for anthroposophical elements originating from the philosophy of Dr. Rudolf Steiner.
In Mursko Središče you can find a promenade along the Mura River, a ranch called Ponyland, a mill on the Mura River in Žabnik, etc.
Make sure you visit the ‘capital’ of Međimurje, ČAKOVEC, where you can visit a manor once owned by the Zrinski noble family, now housing the Museum of Međimurje. Due to its rich history, the city of VARAŽDIN is known as the baroque metropolis of Croatia.
