Pomurje Hiking Trail

The Pomurje Hiking Trail is one of the oldest hiking trails in Slovenia. It starts and ends in Murska Sobota and is 342 km long. The trail was designed in 1962.
The first eight stages, which together make up the route, run through the Goričko hills. The total walking time is about 22 hours.

The path leaves the flat part of Pomurje and leads you into the diverse world of orchards, vineyards and forests of the Goričko Nature Park. The diversity of the landscape is complemented by a diversity of animals, as well as culinary delicacies – the fruits of labour of the hardworking people of Pomurje. The trail goes through the Goričko hills and the Ravensko plains to the other side of the Mura River.

In the municipality of Moravske Toplice, the first part of the Pomurje Hiking Trail begins along the Martjanci–Vaneča road and takes you past the Lapovski mill in the fields, to the macadam road leading to Gornji Moravci, and then towards Selo (Rotunda), the Spirituality Centre in Kančevci, and onwards in the direction of Gornji Petrovci (Pindža).

The second part of the trail leads from Bukovnica Lake and takes you over some beautiful rolling hills with vineyards, the Strehovci Gorice hills, Filovski Gaj, Vrh (Vrij) and Trnavski Breg, to Bogojina. The Pomurje Hiking Trail then ascends towards Vučja Gomila, from where it descends into the valley via Jelovškov Breg in the direction of Moravske Toplice and on to Martjanci.
